James “Jay” Coisman, DVM, MS, Diplomate American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS-SA). Dr. Coisman, Subject Matter Expert, currently head of Surgery, MedVet Northern Virginia. He retired in 2020 as a Lieutenant Colonel, US Army, Chief of Animal Medicine, Veterinary Services, Division Defense Health Agency. During his military career he developed the US DoD handler canine first-aid training curriculum and collaborated in the development of Canine Tactical Combat Casualty Care (cTCCC), Canine Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG’s) for working dog trauma care by human healthcare providers, and Joint Trauma Systems canine trauma registry. He has provided canine first-aid and trauma training to hundreds of handlers, veterinarians, veterinary personnel and human healthcare providers and is a founding member of Tails of Hope Foundation’s advanced K9☤ERTM “5 star” rated training program.
