Message from Kevin D. Scott

Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group TWO
The United States Navy has a proud history of answering the Nation’s call in times of peril. That legacy has been built upon the honor, courage, commitment, and sacrifice of those that have served so valiantly for over 230 years. We in the Navy cherish our rich heritage and find strength in the heroes past and present who have worn our nation’s cloth in the service of others. We too recognize, admire, and commend the rich and heroic legacy of the Canine Search and Rescue Community, and pay special tribute to those who so heroically served during the 9/11 disaster. Since the late 1600’s when dogs came to the aid of stranded travelers in the Alps’ St Bernard Pass, search and rescue dogs have provided immeasurable service to mankind. Since then—through war, natural disaster, and daily accident—their service has comforted, aided, and saved untold numbers, and yet their service and sacrifice often goes unnoticed. On this solemn commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the World Trade Center disaster of September 11, 2001, the United States Navy is proud to recognize with tremendous respect and gratitude the service of the Canine Search and Rescue Community and pay special tribute to those Working Dog Teams that served New York, and their nation so valiantly on that fateful day.
